CLARK THOMSON AND HIS SHOCKING RAPE SPREE IN RENFREWSHIRE AND PAISLEY
A convicted sex offender, Clark Thomson, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after a lengthy and disturbing pattern of sexual abuse that spanned over two decades within the region of Renfrewshire.The heinous crimes, which included multiple instances of rape and assault, were committed in various locations across Paisley, Renfrew, Lochwinnoch, and Johnstone, highlighting a disturbing history of predatory behavior.
Thomson, aged 45 and formerly residing on Dunard Way in Paisley, faced a series of serious charges in connection with his actions.
Although he initially denied the allegations during an earlier trial, the court found him guilty of three counts of rape and three additional charges of assault.
The severity of his crimes was underscored by the fact that one of the assaults posed a danger to the victim’s life, and another resulted in severe injuries and permanent disfigurement.
The case was heard at the High Court in Edinburgh, where Judge John Morris KC addressed Thomson directly.
The judge emphasized the gravity of the jury’s verdict, which confirmed Thomson’s involvement in what was described as “sustained, serious sexual abuse.” In delivering the sentence, Judge Morris stated, “Only a substantial custodial sentence is appropriate in your case,” reflecting the court’s recognition of the profound harm inflicted upon the victims.
Throughout the proceedings, victims’ statements revealed ongoing trauma and suffering long after the assaults.
The court was informed that Thomson’s offending began in 2001, with his first known attacks occurring at addresses in Paisley, including his former residence on Spoolers Road.
During these early incidents, he assaulted a woman, subjected her to rape, and engaged in violent acts such as grabbing her, holding her out of a window, and throttling her.
Thomson also threatened to pour boiling water over her and spat in her face.
The violence escalated further when he headbutted her repeatedly while she was holding a baby, causing her to fall to the ground.
The offender’s pattern of abuse continued over the years, with additional victims.
In 2011, he raped a second woman at an address in Renfrew.
In 2015, he attacked a third woman at a house in Lochwinnoch, forcibly pushing her onto a bed.
His most recent known victim was subjected to rape at a residence in Johnstone between October 2020 and New Year’s Day in 2021.
During the trial, defence counsel Joe Barr acknowledged Thomson’s admitted aggressive tendencies, stating, “He has asked me, even at this late stage, to convey his apologies to the complainers for his behaviour.” Barr also mentioned that Thomson was willing to participate in courses aimed at addressing his behavior, expressing hope that he would take advantage of such opportunities.
Following his sentencing, Thomson was informed that he would be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, a measure that underscores the seriousness with which the justice system views his crimes and the potential risk he poses to the community in Renfrewshire and beyond.
