Middlesbrough Nunthorpe Rapist
In June 2010, two individuals from Middlesbrough were sentenced to over 15 years in prison for offences related to the exploitation of a 14-year-old runaway girl, as well as drug crimes. The girl, who was vulnerable and had run away from home, came into Middlesbrough and encountered Claire Louise Dixon, a 31-year-old drug addict and prostitute. She purchased alcohol for the girl, rendering her 'mortally drunk,' and then they traveled by car on Borough Road. During the journey, Dixon allegedly told the driver, Murtadha Elasadi, 35, 'A 13-year-old. You probably won’t get one like this again,' a remark Elasadi disputes. Elasadi drove them to his home, where despite seeing the girl vomit from intoxication and recognizing her youth, he engaged in sexual activity with her.
The girl, suffering nausea and dizziness, observed Dixon counting money and heard her discuss a sum of £40 in relation to Elasadi. Later, Elasadi drove the girl back into town. Dixon then offered her crack cocaine, claiming it would help her feel better. The events came to light months later when the girl disclosed them to medical professionals. Prior to this, she had approached a police station to report her missing status but was not questioned and left. Elasadi, of Guisborough Road, Nunthorpe, admitted to sexual activity with a child; however, a charge of rape was dropped. He has no prior convictions. Dixon, residing on Spencerfield Crescent, pleaded guilty to arranging or facilitating a child sex offence and additional charges of supplying heroin.
Judge Howard Crowson sentenced each defendant to four-and-a-half years in prison, emphasizing their shared culpability. He also imposed sexual offences prevention orders preventing them from associating with children and mandated their registration as sex offenders. In defense, Elasadi’s lawyer, Christine Egerton, claimed he believed the girl was a sex worker and that he did not use force or threats, describing him as a married, hardworking businessman who was remorseful. During the sentencing, a woman exited the court aggressively shouting abuse at Elasadi. Brian Russell, representing Dixon, explained she struggled to accept responsibility for her actions, which she acknowledged included providing heroin.
Dixon also admitted to three counts of heroin supply. She worked as a 'front of house' dealer alongside fellow drug trafficker David McCabe, with operations sometimes conducted from homes on Norcliffe Street and nearby Coronation Street in North Ormesby. McCabe, 28, of Marton Road, also pleaded guilty to multiple heroin-related charges, having been caught during police raids on homes on Thornton Street and Chertsey Avenue, where heroin was recovered. The pair had a combined record of 77 previous offences, none related to drug supply, and also admitted theft. Their crimes spanned from August 2008 to September of the previous year.
The judge added an additional 18 months to Dixon’s sentence for her drug offences, bringing her total to six years, while McCabe received a five-year sentence, his first prison term. Representing McCabe, Paul Newcombe stated that his client was a troubled addict currently seeking recovery and expressed hope for a better future.
