NORTH-EAST HOME MANAGER DENIES SEX ATTACKS ON WOMEN
A MANAGER at a North-East home for child offenders carried out a series of sex attacks on women after late night drinking sessions, a court heard yesterday.Married Christopher Winstanley Smith, a team manager at the Aycliffe Young People's Centre, in County Durham, is alleged to have attacked three women after escorting them home from the staff bar.
Winstanley Smith, 41, had been drinking until the early hours at the centre, which houses some of Britain's most disturbed and vulnerable children.
The court heard that he allegedly assaulted a woman when she invited him in for a coffee, after he said he was depressed.
Under the influence, he attempted to kiss her passionately, pinned her on the sofa, and sexually assaulted her.
Despite her efforts to break free, he followed her into the kitchen and made threatening remarks.
Weeks later, after leaving the staff bar, he approached another woman at her home, kissed her, and groped her.
Additionally, a third woman claimed she was assaulted by Winstanley Smith at her house, when he kissed her and put his hands around her back.
She pushed him away.
When Winstanley Smith was arrested in January of the previous year, he accepted that he had sex with each of the women but claimed it was consensual.
He also claimed that one woman had expressed love for him on multiple occasions.
The trial is ongoing, and the court continues to hear the case.
