CHRISTOPHER WHITE AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN MANCHESTER
A man named Christopher White from Radcliffe has been convicted of grooming a young girl and engaging in a sexual relationship with her, actions that have left her with enduring and serious mental health issues.The disturbing case traces back to 2006 when White first initiated contact with the girl via the social media platform MySpace.
At that time, she was only 13 years old.
Over the course of their online interactions, White gradually built a relationship with her, which eventually turned sexual when she was 14 and he was 22.
The relationship's progression was detailed during a court hearing at Bolton Crown Court last week.
Prosecutor Johnathan Savage explained that White and the girl met in person in Radcliffe town centre, where they spent time drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes together.
During these meetings, her mother believed she was out with friends, unaware of the true nature of her activities with White.
As their relationship deepened, White and the girl began staying at his mother’s house and also in hotel rooms around Manchester.
The court heard that they even purchased a tent to facilitate camping trips, indicating a level of planning and commitment to their clandestine meetings.
Mr.
Savage further revealed that White actively attempted to isolate the girl from her friends by sending messages to those she knew, aiming to create emotional and social distance between her and her peer group.
This manipulation was part of the grooming process that ultimately led to the sexual relationship.
The relationship persisted until after her 16th birthday, at which point it ended.
White was formally charged with having a sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 16 after police interviews in 2020, prompted by the victim coming forward to authorities.
During the court proceedings, Mr.
Savage stated that the victim felt groomed into the relationship by White, and that the experience had caused her significant psychological harm.
A victim impact statement, read aloud in court, detailed the long-lasting effects of the abuse, with the now adult woman describing how she had spent the last decade in deep depression.
Despite the profound impact, the victim expressed that she has been able to rebuild her life over time.
Her statement underscored the severity of the trauma inflicted by White’s actions.
White’s defense attorney, Colin Buckle, described him as a man with a childlike demeanor, noting that despite being 39 years old, he appeared and behaved as if he were a teenager.
Mr.
Buckle argued that White was operating in a juvenile state and warned that sending him to prison would be a disastrous outcome for him.
Addressing White directly, Judge Abigail Hudson acknowledged his social isolation and loneliness, emphasizing that his employment was a crucial connection to the outside world.
The judge also pointed out that White’s attraction to the victim was based on her availability rather than her age, explicitly stating that she did not believe White was genuinely unaware of her age.
Ultimately, Judge Hudson sentenced White to two years and eight months in prison.
Additionally, she ordered him to sign the sex offenders register, marking a significant legal consequence for his actions in Manchester.
