CHRISTOPHER WEBB OF FIFE SENTENCED AGAIN FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING ONLINE ABUSE

In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing threat posed by online predators, Christopher Webb, a resident of Inverkeithing in Fife, has been sentenced to additional time behind bars for his involvement in the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse images and videos.

Webb, aged 28, had previously been incarcerated for nearly four years due to his engagement in online sexual activities with minors, and his latest sentencing underscores the severity of his continued offending.

Webb's criminal activities came to light during a court hearing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, a venue that has become familiar to him, as it was also the place where he was sentenced just two years prior for similar offences.

His earlier conviction in April 2018 involved the coercion of young boys into performing sexual acts over the internet, with Webb actively encouraging and broadcasting these acts to minors online.

He also made sexual comments directed at children on various internet chat platforms, exploiting their vulnerability for his depraved gratification.

Following his recent sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Richard Banks of Police Scotland’s National Child Abuse Investigation Unit issued a stark warning about Webb’s dangerous nature.

He emphasized that Webb’s behavior demonstrated a blatant disregard for the safety of children and that his use of online platforms was a calculated attempt to exploit and harm minors.

Detective Banks stated, “The sentence imposed reflects the seriousness of Webb’s behaviour.

He believed that his offending would go undetected by using various online platforms to carry out the sexual exploitation of children at various levels.

This was not the case, and as a result of our enquiries he now faces the consequences of his actions.” He further added, “Webb is clearly a danger to children and the internet has supplied him the opportunity to indulge in his fantasies at the expense of the child victims.

He has also encouraged others to participate in this type of behaviour and exploit vulnerable children in the process.” Webb’s criminal record is extensive, with his previous conviction in April 2018 involving the coercion of minors under the age of 16, and at least one victim being under 13.

During that case, Webb, a former rope access technician, admitted to persuading children to remove their clothes and perform sexual acts in front of webcams, which he watched and broadcasted online.

He also engaged in sexual activities himself, which he shared with children over the internet, and made sexual comments to minors on chat websites.

His offences spanned from October 2013 to March 2017, with additional charges relating to indecent images and online sexual exploitation committed during July, August, October 2016, and February 2017.

Webb’s actions included inducing children to participate in sexual acts via webcam, sending them explicit messages, and encouraging them to remove their clothing for his gratification.

The court sentenced him to 27 months in prison and ordered him to be on the sex offenders register for ten years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing threat he poses to the community.
