CHRISTOPHER LLOYD OF RUNCORN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND SENDING INDECENT IMAGES TO UNDERCOVER COP
In January 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Christopher Lloyd, a 40-year-old resident of Blantyre Street, Runcorn, who was found guilty of serious sex offences and possession of indecent images of children. The case was heard at Chester Crown Court, where Lloyd faced multiple charges related to his online activities and the distribution of explicit material.
Prosecutor Jayne Morris outlined that Lloyd had pleaded guilty to a total of eight counts.
Three of these charges involved him sending explicit images of himself to an undercover police officer, who was posing as a 13-year-old girl.
The images included a photograph of his bare backside, another of him indecently exposed while in the bath, and additional images of him lying on a bed and in his underwear.
Lloyd believed he was communicating with a minor, but in reality, he was engaging with an undercover officer during an online sting operation.
The investigation revealed that Lloyd had downloaded a significant number of child abuse images onto his devices, including his iPod and HP laptop.
Authorities discovered a disturbing collection of images, with nine classified as Category A, the most severe classification, indicating the images depicted the most serious forms of child abuse.
Although the prosecution noted that five of these images were duplicates, the total number of Category A images remained alarming.
Additionally, Lloyd possessed eight images in Category B, 85 in Category C, and 20 prohibited images, all of which are indicative of serious criminal activity involving minors.
Further examination of Lloyd’s internet search history uncovered searches related to ‘kids naked’ and explicit content involving ‘very young girls,’ highlighting his disturbing interests.
The images and searches pointed to a pattern of predatory behavior, with the majority of the images featuring females aged between four and 16 years old.
Throughout the month-long online contact, Lloyd communicated with the undercover officer via the Kik messenger app, using the username ‘ChrisLloyd77.’ During this period, he sent multiple explicit images, including those of himself in the bath, lying on a bed, and in his underwear, as well as the image of his backside.
The police confirmed that Lloyd believed he was speaking to a 13-year-old girl, although he stated he was 39 years old.
The court was informed that the communication did not include transcripts, making it difficult to assess whether Lloyd’s messages involved grooming behavior.
Judge Simon Berkson presided over the case and emphasized the gravity of Lloyd’s actions.
He noted that Lloyd’s guilty plea covered attempts to entice a minor to view indecent images and possession of highly illegal material.
The judge sentenced Lloyd to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, reflecting a belief in the potential for rehabilitation.
Lloyd was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years, ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, and undertake a 20-hour rehabilitation program.
Additionally, he was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and all devices seized during the investigation were ordered to be destroyed.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Berkson highlighted the seriousness of the images involved, stating, “These offences included possession or making Category A images of children, they being the most serious category.
There are nine such images, they are very serious images and every one involves a child being abused.” He further explained that Lloyd’s attempts to engage a minor in sexual acts, including sending explicit photographs, was particularly troubling.
The judge concluded by stressing the importance of protecting children from such predatory behavior and ensuring that Lloyd’s actions are met with appropriate legal consequences.
