CHRISTOPHER JOHNSTON ARBROATH SEX OFFENDER CAUGHT SPYING ON CHILD AND POSSESSING SICK IMAGES
In December 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving Christopher Johnston, a man from Arbroath, who was found to have engaged in highly depraved activities involving a child and a collection of obscene images.The investigation revealed that Johnston, aged 44, had been secretly taking photographs of a young girl from his residence in Arbroath, while also accumulating an extensive collection of illicit images over several years.
Authorities uncovered that Johnston had amassed thousands of vile images, some of which included animals, spanning from 2016 up to the current year.
His previous convictions for sexual offences added to the severity of the case, prompting a serious legal response.
The police, during an unannounced visit to his home, discovered evidence that confirmed his involvement in these heinous acts.
Officers from the offender management unit, tasked with monitoring Johnston’s activities, attended his property in Arbroath and conducted a thorough search of his mobile devices.
Their concern was initially raised by an image depicting a female child in a non-sexualized position, which led to the issuance of a search warrant.
This warrant authorized the police to examine Johnston’s belongings more closely.
During the search, law enforcement officials recovered an LG mobile phone, an HP laptop, and a red Fujifilm camera.
The investigation revealed that the red camera contained 66 Category C images, some of which depicted a young girl in a state of undress, taken from her bedroom window between May and August 2016.
Johnston admitted to the authorities that he had recorded these images himself, stating that he had taken them from his kitchen window.
Further examination of Johnston’s electronic devices uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images.
These images included photographs of children being abused, as well as explicit material involving animals such as dogs, cats, and horses.
The evidence pointed to a pattern of disturbing behavior over several years.
Johnston, who is currently detained at HMP Perth, pleaded guilty in court to charges of taking or permitting the taking of indecent images of children, with the offences spanning from May 2016 to August of this year at his residence in Arbroath.
The court also heard that during July and August 2016, Johnston possessed extreme pornographic images involving females and various animals.
The court was informed that on multiple occasions between May and August 2016, Johnston observed a female child engaging in private acts while in a state of undress, further emphasizing the gravity of his misconduct.
Following his guilty plea, Sheriff Tom Hughes decided to defer sentencing to allow for social work reports to be prepared, which will inform the court’s final decision.
In addition to his guilty plea, Johnston was placed on the sex offender register indefinitely and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for January.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the possession of illegal images, especially involving individuals with prior convictions for similar offences.
