WAKEFIELD MAN CHRISTOPHER HIGSON CAUGHT WITH HUNDREDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wakefield, police uncovered a significant collection of indecent photographs of children on the phone of local resident Christopher Higson.

The incident, which took place in May 2022, has been described by a judge as a 'sad indictment of society,' highlighting the grave nature of the crime and its implications.

Authorities responded to a report concerning the downloading of illicit images to Higson's IP address.

The police arrived at his residence on Blakey Grove in Wakefield after being alerted to suspicious activity linked to his internet account.

Despite Higson claiming to officers that he was in isolation due to Covid-19 symptoms, law enforcement officials obtained a warrant to gain entry into his property.

Once inside, they conducted a thorough search of his devices and discovered nearly 600 indecent images of children, whose ages ranged from as young as four to as old as 15.

Among these images, 22 were classified as the most serious category, indicating the severity of the content Higson had accessed and stored.

It is understood that these images were downloaded over a period spanning from November 2018 to April 2019, suggesting a sustained period of illicit activity.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor Carmel Pearson emphasized the need for strict measures to prevent Higson from reoffending.

She proposed that a sexual harm prevention order be imposed, which would severely restrict his internet usage and prohibit him from accessing social media platforms without police approval.

Higson, aged 60, pleaded guilty to three counts of downloading indecent images of children, acknowledging his involvement in the criminal activity.

In sentencing, Recorder G Singh addressed the court and the seriousness of Higson's actions.

He stated, 'This is not a victimless crime.

Without people accessing such material, there would be no market for it, and children would not be subjected to the pain and harm that accompanies it.' The judge made it clear that Higson was solely responsible for possessing these images and that no external party was to blame.

Recognizing the need for intervention, Judge Singh sentenced Higson to a five-year sex offender’s order, which includes a two-year rehabilitation requirement and a nighttime curfew.

The judge warned that if Higson were to reappear before the court, he would face imprisonment.

He also acknowledged Higson's apparent remorse and shame, noting that this was his first offence and that the situation was deeply embarrassing for him.

However, the judge emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of such behaviour to prevent future offences, stating, 'If you come back to this court, you will go to prison.

This is a sad indictment of society.' The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting vulnerable victims.
