2011: OLDBURY MAN JAILED AFTER STABBING BROTHER AND ATTACKING FAMILY
A 34-year-old man from Oldbury, identified as Gibbons, was sentenced to seven years in prison after he stabbed his brother in the abdomen using a steak knife.
The injury was severe enough that his brother required significant surgery to have the embedded blade removed from his liver.
Gibbons also assaulted his parents, Stephen and Verna, who reported feeling afraid of him, along with his brother's girlfriend.
The incident occurred after Gibbons had been using drugs and alcohol.
Prosecutor Mark Rees explained that Gibbons, who habitually carried a knife at home to threaten his parents, attacked his brother when he tried to break up an argument with their mother.
In addition to stabbing his brother, Gibbons punched his father approximately twenty times in the face, slapped his mother, and sprayed water on Louise Hanson.
He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm as well as three counts of common assault.
The judge decided to extend Gibbons' license by an additional five years and issued a restraining order preventing any contact with his family members.
The family is deeply traumatized by these events, and Gibbons expressed feelings of shame and regret.
