ELECTRICIAN CONVICTED OF WIFE’S MURDER AFTER FAKING LIFE INSURANCE POLICY
In Derbyshire, 43-year-old Christopher Daffin was convicted of the ruthless murder of his wife, Colette. The crime involved him deliberately running her over with a 4x4 vehicle, which he had purchased under false pretenses and abandoned nearby.
Court proceedings revealed that Daffin had forged his wife’s signature to secure a £250,000 life insurance policy, with the alleged purpose of benefiting financially from her death.
It was also established that he had engaged in a prolonged affair for at least two years and made efforts to disguise his involvement by making the incident appear as a hit-and-run accident.
Despite his claims of acting in a moment of rage during a heated argument, prosecutors argued that the murder was premeditated.
Judge Jonathan Teare sentenced Daffin to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 25 years before he can seek parole.
He stressed that the murder was premeditated and executed in a cold-blooded manner.
The case highlighted Daffin’s strategic planning, including the forging of insurance documents and the fraudulent registration of the vehicle used in Colette’s death.
