MANSFIELD MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after he was found guilty of child sexual offences committed during the 1970s and 1980s.Christopher Crogan, formerly of Westfield Lane, Mansfield, committed the offences at a Nottingham address, Nottinghamshire Police said.The 65-year-old was convicted of raping a girl, indecently assaulting her on multiple occasions, and engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with her, following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.He received his sentence on Thursday.Detective Constable Dan Blackham, involved in investigating the case, stated: "The victim has had to cope with what happened to her as a child, and then had to relive all the traumatic details again through the court trial." He emphasized that the case demonstrates the police commitment to bringing sex offenders to justice regardless of how long ago the offences occurred.
He also encouraged other survivors of abuse to come forward, assuring them that their cases will be carefully listened to, investigated, and prosecuted, even years later.
"We will always take this type of offending seriously, irrespective of how many years have passed," he added.
