CHRISTOPHER COWAN SENTENCED FOR STALKING AND HARASSMENT IN DUNFERMLINE
A man from Dunfermline who engaged in a disturbing pattern of stalking and harassment by sending explicit messages and photographs to six women has been sentenced to prison.The case highlights the serious nature of his misconduct and the impact it had on his victims.
Christopher Cowan’s actions caused significant distress among those targeted.
One of his victims was compelled to take drastic measures for her safety, including installing CCTV cameras and alarm systems at her residence.
This escalation was triggered after Cowan appeared unexpectedly at her workplace and began bombarding her with persistent phone calls, creating an environment of fear and intimidation.
Throughout the legal proceedings, Cowan maintained his innocence, denying the allegations of sending obscene texts and images.
He claimed that someone else was attempting to frame him, attempting to cast doubt on the evidence presented against him.
Despite his denial, the case was thoroughly examined over a three-day trial at Dunfermline Sheriff Court last month.
Following the trial, the jury reached a unanimous verdict, finding Cowan guilty of the charges.
The court proceedings revealed the extent of his harassment and the emotional toll it took on his victims.
Cowan, who was formerly residing at Lady Anne Court in Crossgates, appeared for sentencing via video link from prison, where he has been held since February 10.
In his sentencing, Sheriff Charles Macnair imposed a two-year prison term on Cowan.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.
The court also issued indefinite non-harassment orders to protect all six women from further contact or intimidation by Cowan, emphasizing the seriousness of his misconduct and the need to safeguard the victims from future harm.
