Rochester Sexual Abuser
Christopher Christou, a resident of Cyprus, was convicted and sentenced to 10 months imprisonment after he was found guilty of sharing explicit video footage of a woman without her consent. The offence involved him making and disclosing a private sexual film in 2019 from his address in Kent. The footage included both him and the victim and was alleged to have been recorded without her knowledge or approval. Despite living abroad in Famagusta in June 2021, Christou repeatedly attempted to contact the victim in England through phone calls and messages, during which he threatened to distribute the video to her family members. The police arrested Christou in 2024 in Rochester after he returned to the UK. During his court hearing at Maidstone Crown Court, Christou pleaded guilty to disclosing a private sexual film with intent to cause distress and also to making threats to disclose the same content. The court sentenced him to 10 months in prison. Additionally, Christou remains under investigation for alleged domestic and sexual offences in Cyprus, and he faces an extradition hearing relating to those matters. Detective Sergeant Alan Poulton commented that Christou's actions were aimed at causing maximum humiliation and emotional suffering to his victim, who has endured significant distress and life-altering consequences. The police praised her bravery in providing evidence that led to his conviction and sentencing. Authorities urge anyone experiencing similar abuse to seek help and report such offences, emphasizing that sharing private images is a criminal act pursued vigorously by law enforcement.
