CHRISTOPHER BEYNON FROM BOURNEMOUTH ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE THOUSANDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Bournemouth, 67-year-old Christopher Beynon of Cranleigh Road narrowly avoided imprisonment after admitting to the possession and distribution of a vast collection of indecent images depicting children. The court proceedings, held at Bournemouth Crown Court, revealed the disturbing extent of Beynon’s activities, which included the creation, possession, and sharing of hundreds of illicit images and videos.
Initially, Beynon was sentenced to two years in prison; however, this sentence was suspended for a period of two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that timeframe.
The court heard that Beynon had previously pleaded guilty to seven charges related to these offences during an earlier hearing, demonstrating a level of remorse or acknowledgment of his actions.
During the recent hearing, Judge Nicholas Haggan reviewed compelling evidence that highlighted Beynon’s efforts to seek help prior to his arrest.
It was noted that Beynon, who was described as being of previous good character, had taken steps to address his problematic behaviour by contacting a therapist.
This detail was considered by the court as a mitigating factor in the sentencing process.
Prosecutor Robin Sellers provided a detailed account of the police investigation.
He explained that authorities received information indicating that a Category A indecent image had been uploaded from a Google email account associated with Beynon.
This tip-off prompted an investigation that traced the activity back to the defendant.
In June 2016, police executed a warrant at Beynon’s residence, leading to his immediate admission of possessing indecent images of children across three electronic devices.
Law enforcement officers seized an iPad, a laptop, and a mobile phone from Beynon’s home.
Subsequent forensic analysis uncovered a staggering collection of illicit material: 858 Category A images, including 405 videos; 939 Category B images, with 409 videos; and 6,171 Category C images, along with five videos.
These categories represent varying degrees of severity, with Category A being the most serious.
Further charges included possession of an extreme pornographic image and three counts of distributing indecent images of children.
The distribution involved files that Beynon uploaded to a cloud storage service and shared with an unidentified individual residing in Ireland.
The images shared included 288 Category A images with 27 videos, 363 Category B images with 142 videos, and 2,947 Category C images.
In addition to the custodial sentence, Beynon was subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to restrict his access to children and prevent further offending.
He was also ordered to pay costs amounting to £510.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable victims from such heinous crimes.
