CHRISTINE MITCHELL JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN MANCHESTER
In a case that has shocked the local community, Christine Mitchell, a 42-year-old woman from Manchester, has been sentenced to prison for her involvement in a series of sexual activities with a teenage boy.The incidents spanned from October 2009 to May 2011, during which Mitchell engaged in inappropriate conduct with a minor under the age of 16.
According to court proceedings, the troubling case came to light after the teenage boy initiated contact by sending a text message to Mitchell, asking if she would like to engage in sexual activity.
The message read, “would you like to have sex?” This was an attempt by the boy to explore his own curiosity about sex, and Mitchell responded affirmatively with a simple “okay then.” The court heard that Mitchell’s consent was given in response to the boy’s inquiry, and the sexual encounters took place at her home, specifically in her bathroom.
Over the course of the following months, the boy claimed that Mitchell would give him “the eye” on other occasions, indicating her continued sexual interest.
The relationship persisted for approximately 18 months, during which the teenager expressed feelings of disgust and shame about his involvement, stating, “I didn’t want to do it any more because I was disgusted in myself.” Prosecutor Craig Lowe told Grimsby Crown Court that Mitchell had responded to the boy’s questions about whether anyone would find out about their encounters.
When the boy reassured her that no one would, she sent a message saying, “Okay then,” effectively consenting to further sexual activity.
The court was informed that the boy had “tried it on with the older woman,” and their sexual encounters also took place at other addresses used by Mitchell.
Mitchell later claimed that she had been pressured into the activities, alleging that the boy had “pestered her” and that she felt intimidated and ashamed to report the situation.
She admitted to police that she had become fed up with repeatedly saying “no” to the boy’s advances.
It was also revealed that Mitchell had been in custody since July, and she expressed remorse for her actions during her time in detention.
Judge Paul Watson QC addressed the court, emphasizing that although Mitchell did not initiate the sexual activity, her actions were still a serious breach of the law.
He clarified that there was no evidence of grooming or deliberate corruption of the minor, but stressed that engaging in sexual activity with a child under 16 is a grave offense designed to protect minors from exploitation.
The judge sentenced Mitchell to three years in prison and ordered her to register as a sex offender for life, underscoring the severity of her misconduct and the importance of safeguarding children from such harm.
