CHIZIEM OMISA FROM HERTFORDSHIRE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND STALKING IN NOTTINGHAM
A man named Chiziem Omisa, aged 25 and residing in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, has been sentenced to prison following a series of serious criminal offenses involving a young woman in Nottingham.The case highlights the dangers of online interactions turning into real-world crimes and underscores the importance of digital evidence in modern criminal investigations.
In May 2019, Omisa engaged in a disturbing incident where he sexually assaulted a young woman after establishing contact with her through social media.
The victim, who initially responded to his flirtatious and flattering messages, repeatedly asked him to cease his advances.
Despite her pleas, Omisa continued his pursuit, leading to a sexual assault at his student accommodation in Nottingham.
The woman later recounted that Omisa had used an assumed name when they first connected on Instagram, which facilitated their meeting.
Following the assault, the woman was advised by police to remain silent, but her account was eventually uncovered through a forensic examination of Omisa’s mobile phone.
The device had been seized during his arrest in connection with another alleged offence.
The forensic analysis revealed a series of messages sent to her, which became crucial evidence in the case.
When detectives located the woman, she provided a detailed account of her experience.
She explained that Omisa had pressured her to keep quiet about the incident, even suggesting that she could face expulsion from her university if she reported him.
This intimidation added a layer of coercion to the assault, making the case even more serious.
Omisa was subsequently arrested again.
During police interviews, he denied any sexual contact with the woman.
However, investigators uncovered a series of crude WhatsApp messages sent from his phone to a friend on the day of the assault.
In these messages, Omisa boasted about his encounter with the victim, which directly contradicted his earlier denials.
Because Omisa had already admitted to being with the woman at the time, these messages served as pivotal evidence.
In court, Omisa pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault by penetration.
He also admitted to stalking two other young women he had met while on bail for the Nottingham incident, as well as perverting the course of justice.
His guilty pleas reflected the severity of his actions and the evidence against him.
On Thursday, June 27, at St Albans Crown Court, Omisa was sentenced to four years and four months in prison.
The court also imposed a restraining order preventing him from making any future contact with his victims.
Additionally, he was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, which will impose strict restrictions on his behavior once he is released from prison.
The order mandates that Omisa must make all his electronic devices available for police inspection, register all his social media accounts with authorities, and refrain from sending unsolicited friend requests to women via social media platforms.
These measures aim to prevent further offenses and protect potential victims from similar harm in the future.
