CHARNJIT SINGH FROM LEICESTER JAILED FOR CHILD ABDUCTION AND RESTRAINING ORDER BREACHES
In a significant case that has shocked the local community in Leicester, Charnjit Singh, aged 28, has been sentenced to serve over two years in prison after admitting to serious child abduction offences. The incident, which took place earlier this year, involved Singh establishing a social media connection with two young girls, aged 11 and 13, through the popular platform Instagram.
Singh, a resident of Wavertree Drive in Leicester, was brought before Leicester Crown Court where he pleaded guilty last month to two counts of child abduction.
The court proceedings culminated on Wednesday, October 3, with Singh receiving a sentence of 27 months for each of the abduction charges.
These sentences are to be served concurrently, meaning he will serve the longer term in full.
The court heard that in late May, Singh actively encouraged the two girls to meet him in person via social media.
Following this, he took the victims on a series of outings in his vehicle, during which he kept them out overnight.
The girls’ parents, concerned about their sudden disappearance, promptly contacted the police, who launched an investigation and subsequently located the girls.
In addition to the prison sentence, Singh was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will remain in effect for ten years.
This order is designed to restrict his activities and prevent further harm.
Furthermore, Singh was disqualified from driving for a period of 27 months, starting from today, and the court ordered the confiscation and destruction of his mobile phone, which was likely used in the commission of the offences.
Singh’s criminal record also includes two counts of breaching a restraining order related to an unrelated incident.
For these breaches, he received an additional three-month jail term for each count, with all sentences to run concurrently.
The court also imposed an indefinite restraining order against Singh, prohibiting him from contacting certain individuals or approaching specific locations.
The judge clarified that the sentences for the child abduction offences and the breaches of the restraining order will be served consecutively, resulting in a combined period of imprisonment.
This case underscores the serious consequences of exploiting social media platforms to target vulnerable minors and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect children from such predatory behavior in Leicester.
