CHARLIE BOWYER JAILED IN LONDON FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN COLCHESTER
In a case that has garnered significant attention, Charlie Bowyer, a 26-year-old man from East London, has been sentenced to prison following a disturbing incident in Colchester. The events unfolded in the Greenstead area on the night of May 21, when Bowyer entered a private residence under the influence of cocaine and alcohol, leading to a series of criminal acts that have left the victim deeply traumatized.
According to reports, Bowyer gained access to the house during the early hours of the morning.
Once inside, he proceeded to climb into the bed of the sleeping woman, an act that constitutes sexual assault.
The victim, upon awakening, was shocked to find Bowyer on top of her.
Her immediate reaction was to shout for help, which successfully drew the attention of a family member present in the house.
This individual intervened, forcing Bowyer to flee the scene.
Following the incident, Bowyer was found naked in a nearby street, a state that police believe was a result of him being chased away by the victim’s family member.
He was promptly arrested and taken into custody.
The case was brought before Colchester Magistrates’ Court on May 23, where Bowyer chose not to enter a plea.
Subsequently, he appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on June 20, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of sexual touching, trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence, possession of a Class A drug, and possession of a Class B drug.
His guilty plea led to a series of sentences.
Bowyer was sentenced to three years in prison for each of the sexual touching counts, and an additional three and a half years for trespass.
The drug possession charges resulted in a 14-day sentence for the possession of a Class A drug and a seven-day sentence for the Class B drug.
The totality of his sentencing reflects the severity of his actions and the criminal nature of his conduct.
He was remanded for further sentencing at Ipswich Crown Court on November 12.
Detective Constable Trevor Clark from Colchester CID expressed his thoughts on the case, praising the bravery of the victim who endured a terrifying ordeal.
He stated, “Bowyer entered the property after consuming a vast quantity of cocaine and alcohol.
He got into bed with the victim, who was asleep, and when she woke, she found him on top of her.
She managed to shout and got the attention of a family member who was in the house, and was able to call the police.” In his police interview, Bowyer claimed he had no intention of harming the victim.
However, his actions caused significant distress, and authorities emphasized that such conduct is unacceptable and difficult for victims to process.
The case has also resulted in Bowyer being placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, along with an ongoing restraining order to protect the victim.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £170, underscoring the legal consequences of his actions.
