CHARLES SEELEY INDECENTLY ASSAULTS BOY IN NORWICH AND ABERDYFI: COURT DECISION ON ELDERLY DEFENDANT'S CASE
In a case that has spanned decades and involved multiple locations, Charles Seeley, a man now aged 80 and formerly known as an artist in Aberdyfi, was the subject of a court hearing in October 2018 that addressed allegations of serious sexual misconduct from his youth.The proceedings revealed that the offenses, which date back to the mid-1970s, involved a young boy who later became an adult man in his 50s, and the case was brought to light after many years of silence.
At Mold Crown Court, the court was informed that Charles Seeley was not able to participate in the trial due to severe dementia.
The condition rendered him unfit to stand trial or plead, and as a result, he did not take part in the proceedings.
Despite his absence, a jury was tasked with determining whether the allegations against him were true.
After careful deliberation, the jury concluded that the evidence supported the claims that Seeley had committed the acts in question, which included seven separate sexual allegations.

Judge Rowlands emphasized that this decision was made partly to provide closure for the victim, who had endured a long and painful journey to have his allegations acknowledged.
The judge acknowledged the importance of allowing the victim to find some peace after many years of suffering and silence.
It was also noted that Seeley was living with friends in the Norwich area at the time of the court hearing.
The judge remarked that someone close to him would need to explain the court's decision and the circumstances surrounding the case, given his health condition.
The prosecution, led by barrister Sarah Badrawy, recounted the details of the victim’s relationship with Seeley, which began when the boy was living in Aberdyfi.
The court heard that Seeley, who was known for his art and photography, had shown the boy his cameras and provided art lessons.
During this period, Seeley gave the boy gifts, including £20 and other presents, and instructed him to keep their interactions secret.
The abuse reportedly included oral sex, and the defendant also took indecent photographs of the boy, which he concealed in a floor safe at his home.
The victim, who was between 11 and 13 years old at the time, recalled that Seeley celebrated his birthday with a cake and an expensive camera.
When the boy was 14, the abuse escalated to an illegal sex act.
The court was told that the victim found it difficult to believe that his parents had not suspected anything during those years.
As an adult, the victim confronted Seeley, who claimed that their relationship was an “affair that went wrong.” The case had a lasting impact on the victim, who required counseling to cope with the trauma.
Throughout the proceedings, the court also heard that Seeley drew portraits of the boy and continued to give him private art lessons.
The defendant would arrange to pick him up near a tree in his yellow Renault, further illustrating the nature of their interactions during that period.
