A man who violated a court-issued restraining order by messaging a woman on Tinder has been sentenced to seven months in prison for five separate breaches of a stalking protection order.
Charles Ritchie, who is currently without a fixed address, was convicted at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court after breaching the order on five occasions between January 23 and July 29.
He was issued a protection order on April 29, with an additional restraining order granted at Aylesbury Crown Court on January 7.
Despite these legal directives, he contacted a woman in her thirties via Tinder on June 18, which was explicitly forbidden.
Following his arrest on July 29, he was charged the next day and later pleaded guilty to five counts of breaching the stalking protection order along with one count of harassment for violating the restraining order.
Milton Keynes police officer PC Mark Ashby commented on the case, stating he is satisfied with the sentence handed down and condemning Ritchie's repeated defiance of court orders.
He reaffirmed that stalking is a serious offense that harms victims and must not be tolerated.
Authorities encourage victims of persistent unwanted contact to report incidents to the police, where experienced officers will investigate and work to ensure offenders face justice.
Reports can be made through the police website or by calling 101, with support available for those affected.
