CHARLES DELWORTH CAUGHT IN EDINBURGH CHILD ABUSE VIDEO SCANDAL
In March 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving a pensioner from Edinburgh who was found to be involved in the possession of highly disturbing child abuse videos.The incident unfolded when police officers executed a warrant at the suspect’s residence, leading to a detailed investigation that uncovered a troubling collection of illicit material.
Charles Delworth, aged 65, was at his home in the Leith area of Edinburgh with his wife when law enforcement officials arrived to conduct a search.
The police’s intervention was part of an ongoing effort to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation content.
During the search, forensic examination of Delworth’s computer revealed a significant number of illicit videos.
In total, dozens of these videos were recovered, including 35 classified at Category A, which is designated for the most severe and disturbing material involving child abuse.
Delworth was brought before Edinburgh’s sheriff court on a Tuesday to face charges related to the possession of indecent images of children.
The prosecution, led by fiscal depute Anna Chisholm, detailed the circumstances of the police raid.
She explained that officers had arrived at the suspect’s residence in Leith, where he was present with his wife.
The forensic analysis of Delworth’s electronic devices uncovered a total of 19 videos categorized as Category B and 16 as Category C, in addition to those at Category A.
The court was informed that these images were not readily accessible at the time of discovery, as Delworth had reportedly downloaded the videos and then deleted them shortly afterward.
Delworth admitted to possessing these indecent images of children between July 6 and July 10, 2019.
His guilty plea was entered during the court proceedings, and Sheriff Kenneth Campbell QC decided to defer sentencing until the following month to allow for further reports to be prepared.
As part of the legal consequences, Delworth was also placed on the sex offenders register, marking a serious step in the judicial process against him.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Edinburgh to combat child exploitation and the importance of forensic investigations in uncovering such disturbing crimes.
