CONVICTED CHILD RAPIST RELEASED EARLY, FAMILY LIVES IN FEAR
A man named Charles Ainsworth, aged 47, was convicted of twice raping a seven-year-old girl and was subsequently jailed for eight years in November 1995.
However, he was released from prison just three months later while he was still appealing his conviction.
The family of the victim, who is now 14, has expressed living in ongoing fear since his release, stating, "We thought the whole thing was over until Ainsworth was let out - now we're back living in fear of every telephone call or knock at the door." The court heard that Ainsworth, who has a limp, assaulted the young girl in front of her cousin after taking photographs following her First Communion.
Both girls swore to keep the incident secret, which only came to light six years later after the victim's suicide attempts, including an overdose and an attempt to throw herself under a train.
The young girl eventually disclosed her suffering to her parents, leading to Ainsworth's trial, where he refused to admit guilt and was sentenced to prison.
Despite his incarceration, Ainsworth was freed early, a fact only discovered by the family when they encountered him on the street.
He is currently residing in a hostel in Glasgow and did not provide comments when approached.
