Cezary Sobiewski, a 40-year-old resident of Tipton, was found guilty of murdering his partner, Barbara Baraniecka. The incident took place inside their Tipton home in the West Midlands region, where Sobiewski stabbed Ms.
Baraniecka 13 times after he was unable to accept their separation.
He admitted to committing the murder during his plea hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
The judge described the attack as a sustained and savage assault.
It was revealed that Sobiewski left the scene to purchase cider and then stayed at home drinking while Ms.
Baraniecka's daughter discovered her battered and covered in blood.
The Crown Prosecution Service stated that Ms.
Baraniecka had previously expressed concerns about Sobiewski’s increasing alcohol consumption and had told him she intended to end their relationship in October, before her death.
Sobiewski moved to the UK from the United States in 2010 to be with Ms.
Baraniecka.
Paramedics confirmed she had been dead for several hours before her body was found.
Judge John Wait sentenced Sobiewski to a minimum term of 20 years, noting the loss of a woman who was beloved by many and a mother of two daughters.
The police and CPS conveyed their hope that her daughters can begin healing and moving forward after her tragic passing.
