SALTBURN WOMAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER VODKA BOTTLE ASSAULT
A woman named Carolyn Jones, aged 55, who assaulted her on-off partner with a vodka bottle while he was lying in bed, has avoided jail.The incident occurred in Saltburn on Boxing Day, during a period when both had been drinking heavily.
Teesside Crown Court heard that Jones entered the man's home and attacked him, resulting in a head wound that was treated by paramedics, although he declined hospital treatment.
Jones was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to an 18-month community order with 25 days of rehabilitation activity.
Additionally, she received a five-year restraining order to stay away from the victim.
The court was told that Jones hopes to return to Saltburn but will need to find alternative accommodation since her current residence is next to her former partner’s home.
The judge, Recorder Ben Nolan QC, stated that "Both you and the victim were substantially drunk." The relationship between Jones and the victim is now over, and Jones has been staying with her sister.
Mitigating lawyer Alex Bousfield indicated that Jones aims to return to Saltburn but must relocate.
The victim suffered a head injury but did not require hospital admission.
