In September 2017, Carl Johnson, aged 53 and from Bowden Drive, Dulwich, was convicted of sexually abusing a young girl over several years at a church in Battersea. He was sentenced to ten years in prison at Kingston Crown Court after a guilty verdict on charges from the 1990s. Johnson exploited his role within the Battersea church community to groom his victim, beginning in 1991. Over the following years, until 1995, when she was between 13 and 15 years old, he committed multiple acts of sexual abuse. The victim reported the abuse to police in 2014, prompting an immediate investigation. After a five-day trial, Johnson was found guilty and received a decade-long prison sentence.
