In a disturbing incident that has shocked the Highland community, Cara MacLennan, a social care worker based in Fortrose, has been officially disqualified from practicing in her field following a serious misconduct case. The incident, which occurred in February of the previous year, involved MacLennan taking a selfie while on duty, capturing herself in her work uniform and making a 'V' sign with her fingers. In the background of this inappropriate photo was a vulnerable service user, who was dressed in nightwear and present in a bathroom setting. Crucially, the service user did not give consent for the photograph to be taken, raising serious concerns about the respect for their privacy and dignity.

Adding insult to injury, MacLennan captioned the image with derogatory comments such as 'can’t see me', 'ha ha ha', and 'doesn’t know anything I’m doing'. She then sent this image via Snapchat, initially sharing it with only one individual. When applying for a new position in July 2024, MacLennan failed to disclose her previous dismissal and the ongoing investigation by the SSSC. She falsely claimed that her reason for leaving her previous job was because she was 'offered a new job'. This dishonesty, coupled with her failure to disclose her investigation status, was a significant factor in the disciplinary action taken against her.
