OFFENDER CALLUM WATTS JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AND THREATS IN COWBRIDGE
Watts, who has no fixed address, admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm. The court was informed that he has numerous prior convictions and had received a suspended sentence just days before attacking Ms.
Thomas, following a conviction for assaulting a former partner.
In his plea for leniency, William Bebb noted that Watts understood he faced a lengthy jail term and had spent the past eight months in custody on remand.
Bebb also mentioned that Watts had a difficult upbringing, being placed in care at a young age, witnessing his mother suffer domestic abuse, and experiencing exposure to criminal activity while residing at a YMCA after leaving care.
Judge Jeremy Jenkins, in sentencing, remarked: "Your behavior was extremely erratic and frightening.
You started by insulting and threatening Ms.
Thomas, then attempted to strangulate her by placing your hands around her throat and squeezing.
She was very scared and became dizzy, tasting blood in her mouth." Watts was given a sentence of 20 months in prison.
