CALLUM SCOTT FROM BO’NESS THREATENS TO KILL CHILDREN AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT NEAR KINNEIL RAILWAY STATION
In December 2017, a disturbing incident unfolded in the town of Bo’ness involving Callum Scott, a 25-year-old resident of South Street. Scott was accused of engaging in a series of alarming and inappropriate behaviors targeting young children, which culminated in a threatening confrontation that left the community shaken.According to reports, Scott followed a group of children to the wooded area near Kinneil Railway Station, a popular local landmark. During this encounter, he committed a sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl by touching her on the buttocks. The situation escalated when Scott approached another girl, aged 14, from behind and slid his hands around her waist in a manner described as creepy and invasive. These actions took place in a setting that was supposed to be a safe space for the children, raising serious concerns about their safety and well-being.
Scott appeared before Falkirk Sheriff Court on a Thursday to face charges related to his conduct on October 27. He admitted to threatening behavior and the sexual assault of the girls involved. However, the prosecution acknowledged that Scott denied additional charges of sexually assaulting three other children in the same group. These alleged offenses included touching a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl on their buttocks, as well as placing his hand inside a 13-year-old girl’s waistband, which the prosecution did not accept as part of the plea.
Procurator fiscal depute Ruaraidh Ferguson provided details of the incident, stating that the children initially believed Scott was intoxicated because he was slurring his words and staggering as he walked. Despite this, his behavior did not immediately alarm the children. The situation changed when one girl stood up and walked past Scott. As she did, he raised his right hand and touched her on the buttocks over her clothing. Subsequently, Scott approached a slightly older girl as if to hug her from behind, wrapping his arms around her in a manner that was clearly inappropriate.
Following these events, one of the children contacted her older brother, who arrived with a friend to assist. The two men found one of the girls visibly distressed and upset, and she explained what had happened. During police questioning, Scott claimed he was being “set up” and insisted that “it didn’t happen.” He also admitted to having consumed half a bottle of Buckfast before the incident, which may have contributed to his behavior.
The court heard that Scott has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for theft, drug offenses, and notably, the arson of the gym hall at Bo’ness Academy. Due to the seriousness of the allegations and his past record, Sheriff Derek Livingston continued the case until January 18 for further reports and a risk assessment. Scott was remanded in custody pending the next hearing, with community safety and the protection of minors remaining a primary concern for the authorities and the local community.
