DORES MAN CALLUM MUNRO TO BE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT NEAR INVERNESS AND TORNAGRAIN
In June 2022, a man from Dores, identified as Callum Munro, is scheduled to face sentencing after admitting to a serious sexual assault that took place in 2019.Munro, aged 24 at the time of the court appearance, appeared before Inverness Sheriff Court to enter his guilty plea regarding the incident that occurred at a residence in Tornagrain.
According to the prosecution, Fiscal depute David Morton outlined the details of the assault, stating that Munro forcibly pushed a woman onto a bed, held her down, and engaged in a struggle with her.
During this confrontation, Munro reportedly bit the woman multiple times, causing her significant distress and physical harm.
The court was told that the woman managed to break free from Munro’s grip, fleeing the scene barefoot.
She then made her way to Inverness Airport, where she sought help by calling emergency services.
Following the guilty plea, Munro is set to return to court on July 5 for further proceedings, including the consideration of background checks and other reports that have been ordered.
In a move to protect the public, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald immediately placed Munro on the Sex Offenders’ Register, reflecting the severity of the offense.
Munro’s defense solicitor, Willie Young, chose to reserve his plea until the sentencing hearing, indicating that further legal arguments or mitigation might be presented at that time.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about sexual violence and the importance of judicial measures to ensure community safety in the Inverness and Tornagrain areas.
