MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR CHOKING AND THREATENING EX IN DEVASTATING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ATTACK
A woman experienced a terrifying assault at the hands of her ex-partner, Callum Jeffs, who chased her with a kitchen knife and strangled her four times.The victim described the incident as life-threatening, stating she believed she was going to die.
Jeffs, 24, from Hopkinstown, entered her home uninvited around 9pm on July 9 and quickly became aggressive, shouting accusations and spitting in her face.
He then grabbed a kitchen knife, threatened to kill her, and began stabbing the wall, demanding to Know where other men were hiding.
During the attack, he squeezed her neck with such force that she was unable to breathe, leaving her fearful for her life.
The court heard he repeatedly strangled her, dragged her by hair, and caused bruises and pain from kicking her.
Jeffs also smashed a picture of his ex-partner and her son, and mocked her while she cried.
He finally sat and lit a joint, then continued the assault by kicking her multiple times.
She attempted to call police, but he strangled her again and went into a frenzy, going 'crazy.' He was later arrested and pleaded guilty to several charges, including intentional strangulation, assault causing bodily harm, threats with a blade, and criminal damage.
The court noted his 11 previous convictions, some of which were against the victim.
During sentencing, Judge Jeremy Jenkins described Jeffs' actions as 'extreme cowardice' and handed him a 25-month prison sentence, with half to be served in custody before release on licence.
The victim stated the trauma had left her feeling anxious, isolated, and distrustful, with lasting emotional scars.
