MANCHESTER MAN WALKS FREE AFTER BRUTAL ASSAULT ON EX DURING FATHER'S DAY DISPUTE
A 29-year-old man named Callum Cooney from Collyhurst, Manchester, has been convicted of assaulting the mother of his child, Cherelle Corcoran.Despite his violent behavior, he avoided jail time when he was handed a suspended sentence, an unpaid work order, and a restraining order.
The court heard that Cooney physically attacked Cherelle after she refused to tell him what their six-year-old daughter got him for Father’s Day.
He assaulted her by grabbing her by the hair and slamming her head against the steering wheel of her car, as well as biting her on the cheek.
During the attack, Cherelle was also pulled by her hair, had her head battered against the steering wheel, and was physically assaulted by multiple people trying to intervene.
Witnesses, including Cooney's 80-year-old grandmother, who was said to be reduced to tears, observed the horrifying scene.
Cherelle described the incident, recounting how Cooney was already in a bad mood when they discussed gifts in town, and how he confronted her during a situation where she had pulled over to talk to a friend.
She also stated that Cooney insulted her and then attacked, biting her cheek and ripping out some of her hair, leaving her with a bald patch.
Cooney denied wrongdoing, claiming she fabricates lies and insisting he never reached through a car window or assaulted her.
The court found him guilty of two counts of common assault but chose not to send him to prison.
The court also imposed a restraining order to prevent contact between Cooney and Cherelle.
The attack was witnessed by others, and the court heard testimonies of how violent and aggressive Cooney was during the incident.
