BRUCE URQUHART FROM INVERURIE AND KEMNAY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SCANDAL
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Inverurie and Kemnay, Bruce Urquhart, a man with ties to both towns, narrowly avoided a prison sentence after being found guilty of possessing a significant amount of child pornography.The incident came to light in June 2002, when Urquhart, a director in the oil consultancy sector, was discovered to have downloaded over 500 disturbing images depicting young children from the internet.
His wife, Lynn, was the first to uncover the disturbing material when she found the illicit images on their family computer.
Outraged and deeply disturbed by what she discovered, she immediately contacted the police.
When authorities arrived at the family home in Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, they conducted a thorough search and uncovered an alarming collection of approximately 30,000 pornographic images stored on the computer.
The majority of these images were of adults, but the presence of child pornography was a grave concern that led to serious legal repercussions.
Following the discovery, Lynn Urquhart decided to leave her husband, citing the distress caused by his actions.
The fallout from the case also led to Urquhart resigning from his position in the oil industry, marking a significant personal and professional downfall.
The case was brought before Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where Urquhart, who was then residing in Thainstone, Inverurie, faced sentencing.
During the court proceedings, Sheriff Pamela Bowman reviewed the evidence and the impact of Urquhart’s actions.
She sentenced him to two years of probation and mandated that he complete 180 hours of community service.
Additionally, she ordered his name to be added to the sex offenders register, a move that underscores the severity of his crimes.
Despite the gravity of the case, Sheriff Bowman chose not to impose a custodial sentence, citing the fact that Urquhart’s twisted obsession had already resulted in the loss of his job, marriage, and family life.
The case remains a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of such illegal and morally reprehensible behavior.
