BRUCE MORRIS FROM GWYNEDD SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN MACCLESFIELD

In September 2010, Bruce Morris, a 66-year-old man from Gwynedd, was found to possess nearly 3,000 images of child abuse on his computer.

Authorities responded after receiving a tip from the Child Exploitation Online organization, indicating that indecent images of children had been downloaded by Morris.

When police officers visited his home, Morris acknowledged some awareness of the situation, stating: "I think I am aware of what you are talking about." At Mold Crown Court, the retired electrical engineer, who wore his Rotary Club tie, was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.

In addition, he was placed under supervision, required to register as a sex offender for ten years, and disqualified from ever working with children.

A Sexual Offences Prevention Order was also imposed to restrict his future internet use.

Judge Niclas Parry remarked that between 2007 and 2009, Morris’s actions were akin to being complicit in the abuse of girls as young as four, emphasizing, "These are not just pictures – they depict what actually happens to young children." The judge acknowledged Morris’s guilty plea, remorse, community involvement, and lack of previous convictions in his sentencing considerations.

Morris, who previously managed his own electrical business and participated in various community organizations, was found to have 2,995 images on his computer during a police raid in January of the previous year.

The images were categorized as 1,862 at level one (least serious), 18 at level two, three at level three, and 112 at level four; notably, none were at the most serious level five.

During initial interviews, Morris claimed he had downloaded some adult pornography with some images of children, believing them to be legal since they did not depict children in sexual acts.

However, after analysis in March, he admitted to creating images at level one and insisted that the more serious level four images involved adults, not children.
