MANCHESTER MAN IMPRISONED FOR LIFE AFTER KILLING WIFE IN PARK
Brian Oliver, aged 40 and married to Joanne Oliver, was found guilty of stabbing his estranged wife 15 times in Heaton Park last September.Prosecutors described the act as a 'brutal act of violence.' Although Oliver had denied involvement in her murder, he changed his plea during the trial held at Manchester Crown Court.
He received a life sentence, with a minimum term of 19 years before he can be considered for parole.
The court was told that Oliver's relationship with Joanne was tumultuous, marked by possessiveness, control issues, heavy drinking, and occasional violence.
On the day of the assault, Oliver sent numerous text messages to his wife, accusing her of seeing another man, which she denied.
Witnesses observed Oliver standing over his wife holding a large knife, and he later told workmen that he had cut her throat, claiming he intended to kill himself with the same knife but lost control after a fall during a struggle.
The judge condemned his actions as 'wholly unjustified and wicked,' highlighting that Mrs.
Oliver was attempting to escape when she was stabbed.
Her death brought grief to her family, and it emerged that Oliver’s history included possessive and controlling behavior that contributed to the deterioration of their relationship.
