Douglas Sexual Abuser
In March 2018, a photographer employed at a youth club narrowly avoided imprisonment after being found guilty of taking indecent photographs of a young relative. The 63-year-old Brian Stanley Mitchell, residing on Woodbourne Road in Douglas, pleaded guilty to charges of creating indecent images of children and downloading such content from the internet.

At Douglas Courthouse, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes remarked that although the images were considered to be at the lower end of severity, Mitchell’s conduct represented a serious breach of trust. Evidence presented included correspondence from youth workers associated with the Department of Education, Sport and Culture, highlighting Mitchell’s work with Pulrose Youth Club and his involvement in taking photographs at various Island schools.

Mrs. Hughes sentenced Mitchell to a 12-week prison term, which was suspended for two years. Additionally, she ordered that Mitchell register as a sex offender for a period of five years.
