BRIAN MCCANN FROM GLASGOW SENTENCED FOR CHILD RAPE CRIMES IN EDINBURGH
In a case that has shocked the community, Brian McCann, a man from Glasgow, was sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of two young girls. The offences spanned several years and involved multiple instances of rape and indecent behaviour, beginning when the victims were as young as six years old.
During the sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lord Dawson did not hold back in condemning McCann’s actions.
He described him as a significant danger to young girls and expressed his disappointment at McCann’s apparent lack of remorse.
The judge stated, "You have shown absolutely no remorse for taking advantage of these girls for your own sexual gratification." McCann, aged 41 at the time of sentencing, was convicted of multiple serious offences.
The court found that he had raped one girl on various occasions between August 1994 and May 1999.
The victim was only 12 years old when the first assault occurred.
In addition to the rapes, McCann was also convicted of lewd and indecent behaviour towards her when she was between six and eleven years old.
Furthermore, McCann was found guilty of assaulting and raping a second girl on multiple occasions from October 1989 to October 1997.
The abuse of this second victim also began when she was just six years old.
The crimes took place at various houses within Glasgow, where McCann resided in the Maryhill area.
Throughout the proceedings, McCann maintained his innocence, denying the charges.
However, the evidence presented in court was compelling enough to secure his conviction.
Judge Lord Dawson emphasized the severity of the abuse, noting that McCann had exploited the girls from a very tender age and had deprived them of their childhoods.
The judge also highlighted the emotional toll on the victims, who were forced to testify in court about their traumatic experiences.
Addressing McCann directly, Lord Dawson remarked, "I consider you to be, on the evidence I heard, a danger to young persons, in particular, female persons." In addition to the nine-year prison sentence, the court ordered that McCann serve an extended period of three years under supervision after his release.
This measure aims to monitor his behaviour and prevent any potential reoffending, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing concern for the safety of young girls in the community.
