BRIAN GRIFFITHS FROM LANCASTER SENTENCED FOR ABUSE OF FOUR YOUNG GIRLS IN BURNLEY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Brian Griffiths, a resident of Lancaster, was brought before Burnley Crown Court to face serious charges related to the sexual abuse of four young girls. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of heinous acts committed over several years, spanning from 2003 to 2011, during which Griffiths targeted victims aged just eight or nine years old.Griffiths pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual assault involving minors. The charges included two counts of sexual assault on a girl under the age of 13 by penetration with a part of his body, and two additional counts of sexual assault involving penetration. Furthermore, he admitted to six counts of sexual assault on children under 13, as well as five counts of sexual assault through touching. The court also heard that Griffiths had incited or caused a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity on two separate occasions.
The court was informed that Griffiths had repeatedly attacked the four young girls, with the assaults occurring over an extended period. The victims, who were only eight or nine years old at the time, endured a series of traumatic experiences inflicted by Griffiths, whose actions were described as vile and depraved.
In sentencing, the judge imposed a total of ten years of imprisonment on Griffiths. This sentence was reduced by 36 days, which he had already spent on remand. Additionally, Griffiths was subject to a sexual harm prevention order, restricting his activities and contact with minors. It was also made clear that he would remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
The case highlights the importance of vigilance and the need for robust legal measures to safeguard vulnerable children from predators like Griffiths, whose actions have left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.
