April 2010 Isle of Man salesman branded sexual predator A door-to-door salesman jailed for indecently assaulting the 11-year-old daughter of a friend has been described by Isle of Man police as a “predator”. Brian Goodspeed, 66, of Ramsey, carried out the assault after taking the girl on one of his sales rounds in 2006. He admitted indecent assault at Douglas Courthouse last month and was jailed for 16 months on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Manx Police paid tribute to the bravery of the victim and said Goodspeed was a danger to young women. The court heard that Goodspeed had gained the trust of the girl through his friendship with the family. It was during one of his sales rounds that he took her to a secluded area and carried out the assault. The court also heard that Goodspeed had a conviction for committing a similar offence against a 10-year-old girl in 1974. Det Sgt Cathryn Bradley, of the Manx Police Public Protection Unit, said: “This man is a predator who used his friendship and employment to target a vulnerable child. “He will be closely monitored upon his release from prison to minimise the risk that he poses within the community. Det Con Rebecca Sleight, also on the investigation team, said she was pleased Goodspeed had been jailed and paid tribute to his victim. “It is a credit to her that she found the strength to come forward and I am pleased that Mr Goodspeed finally took responsibility for his actions which prevented the victim having to go to court and give evidence.” Goodspeed will be on the sex offenders register for 10 years and is the subject of a sexual offences prevention order.
