December 2003 Amy boyfriend admits sex attack The former boyfriend of a murder victim has been jailed for five years after admitting a sex attack on a teenage girl.

Brian Galloway, 28, whose ex-girlfriend Amy Anderson’s torso was found in Dunbartonshire last year, earlier admitted attacking the 15-year-old girl with the intention of raping her.

The High Court in Edinburgh was told that Galloway, who has problems with drink and drug abuse, grabbed the girl last June as she walked through Cardross village park, Argyll and Bute, with a friend.

His name has also been put on the sex offenders’ register.

Judge Leeona Dorrian QC told Galloway: “The offence to which you have pled guilty is a very serious one and must have been a very terrifying experience for the victim and her friend.

“It has had a very traumatic effect on both young girls making them afraid to go out.” The court heard that Galloway had no previous convictions for sex offences but had problems with drink and drug abuse.

Defence counsel Martin Jones QC said: “He was very much under the influence of alcohol at the time this offence was committed.” The judge told Galloway that if he had not accepted his guilt he would have faced a sentence of seven years’ imprisonment on conviction.

In addition to jailing him for five years she ordered that he serve an extended sentence for a further three years when he will be kept under supervision on licence.
