A GREENOCK man who dragged his elderly pet dog out of a car at a supermarket and punched it is facing jail after admitting his guilt in court.
Brian Ewing attacked the helpless 16-year-old animal outside a store in March.
Ewing, of Wallace Street, beat the animal at the Asda store at the Phoenix Retail Park, in Renfrewshire, on March 20.
The 56-year-old struck a deal with prosecutors which saw him plead guilty to a reduced charge at Paisley Sheriff Court.
He admitted dragging the dog out of his car and punching it on the body, with the Crown deleting from the charge claims that he kicked the dog on the body and dragged it into the car.
Ewing struck the deal just minutes before his trial was due to start, pleading guilty to breaking Section 19(1) of the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 by causing the dog unnecessary suffering.
Defence solicitor Charles Drummond said the dog goes everywhere with Ewing.
And the lawyer said there were concerns over the pet being confiscated and placed in a home – as it was so old it may never be rehomed elsewhere.
