In a disturbing incident that took place in the town of Ayr, 74-year-old Brian Dunn, a resident of Seafield, was found guilty of engaging in highly inappropriate and lewd behavior while dining at a local Chinese restaurant. The incident, which occurred over the course of several weeks in July and August, has drawn significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.

According to court reports, Dunn was observed on multiple occasions displaying shocking behavior that included watching pornographic material on his mobile phone in full view of other diners at Ruby 7 Days, a popular eatery located on New Bridge Street. On July 1, witnesses saw Dunn with his phone left openly on the table, clearly displaying explicit images. Further reports indicated that on another occasion, his device was actively playing a pornographic video, which he appeared to be viewing openly while seated at his table.

The court heard that Dunn’s misconduct extended beyond just viewing inappropriate content. On July 12, he approached a woman dining at the restaurant and asked if he could visit her home, an act that she perceived as an attempt at humor but nonetheless contributed to the overall pattern of inappropriate behavior. The situation escalated when Dunn was observed on August 18 staring into the window of the restaurant, waving at a 16-year-old girl, and blowing kisses in her direction. Court documents reveal that he leaned in close to her and inquired about her plans to go home, actions that caused the young girl to feel alarmed and fearful.

During the court proceedings, it was detailed that Dunn’s actions caused significant distress to the teenager and others present. He was charged with causing fear or alarm through repeated visits to the restaurant, peering into the window, waving, and making improper remarks. Additionally, he was found guilty of intentionally causing two individuals to view sexual images on his phone while seated at the table, an act that further demonstrated his blatant disregard for social boundaries and the comfort of others.

The case was brought before Ayr Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Mhairi Mactaggart ordered that Dunn be added to the sex offender’s register. The court also called for comprehensive reports on his background, including a risk assessment and a criminal justice social work report, before sentencing. As of the latest update, sentencing has been deferred, and Dunn is expected to learn his fate next month, pending the completion of these assessments.
