WALLSEND PENSIONER BRIAN COWDERY CAUGHT WITH OVER 2,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND VIDEOS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wallsend, a pensioner named Brian Cowdery was found to possess an extensive collection of illegal and highly disturbing material related to child abuse.

The authorities uncovered more than 2,000 images and videos depicting child exploitation, which Cowdery had accumulated over a span of nearly a decade.

According to court reports, Cowdery, aged 65 and residing on Oxford Avenue in Wallsend, had been deliberately searching for and downloading these illicit materials from the internet since 2009.

His collection was finally discovered during a police investigation in March 2017, revealing the extent of his disturbing activities.

During the search, law enforcement officials found a total of 2,168 images and videos, many of which were classified as the most severe category—Category A—indicating penetrative sexual acts involving children.

Specifically, the police identified 404 images and videos of this most serious kind, alongside 429 in Category B and 1,335 in Category C, illustrating a wide range of illegal content.

The prosecution, led by Laura Croft, outlined that Cowdery had been actively downloading this material over an eight-year period, from January 2009 until March 2017.

She emphasized the gravity of the case by highlighting the high volume of images, including moving footage, and the deliberate nature of Cowdery's searches, which were evidenced by specific search terms uncovered during the investigation.

At North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, Cowdery pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

The court was informed of the serious nature of his offenses, which involved not only possession but also the deliberate seeking out of such material.

Following his plea, Cowdery was released on unconditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on July 4 for sentencing.

The case has raised significant concerns about the safety of children and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in tackling such heinous crimes.
