BRIAN CHAPMAN CONVICTED IN PORTADOWN FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON YOUNG GIRL

Brian Chapman, a 58-year-old businessman and owner of Chapman’s Farm Fresh located in Portadown, faced justice last month after being found guilty on two counts of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in the year 2020. The conviction followed a detailed two-day trial that brought to light the disturbing details of the abuse.

The young girl, who was only 16 at the time of the incidents and has been granted lifelong anonymity, provided a harrowing account of her interactions with Chapman. She explained that initially, Chapman would give her extra money and instruct her to keep these transactions secret from her mother. Over time, however, the nature of their interactions grew more invasive. She recounted how Chapman would call her to his office at unpredictable times, often hugging her from behind in a manner that made her uncomfortable, and making unwelcome advances that she felt powerless to resist.

The victim described feeling as if she was trapped and frozen during these encounters, which reportedly occurred twice daily. The court proceedings revealed that on one particularly disturbing occasion, Chapman groped her in a disused office space, touching her inappropriately and even sliding his hand down her trousers. These acts left a lasting impact on her, and her mother noticed a significant change in her daughter's demeanor following the final incident. This change prompted an inquest, which ultimately led to the legal case against Chapman.

Throughout the trial, Chapman maintained his innocence, denying any wrongdoing. Despite his protests, the jury found him guilty of the charges. He was subsequently sentenced for his crimes, although he later chose to appeal the verdict. However, he eventually dropped the appeal, accepting the court's decision.
