BRIAN BROOKS AND JOSH MCINTYRE SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL PAISLEY MACHETE ATTACK ON FAMILY AND CHILD

In a harrowing case that shocked the community of Paisley, Renfrewshire, two men, Brian Brooks and Josh McIntyre, have been sentenced to 12 years in prison each for their involvement in a violent and premeditated machete assault on a family home.

The attack, which took place in September of the previous year, was characterized by its brutality and the terrifying nature of the violence inflicted upon innocent victims.

According to court reports, Brooks and McIntyre, both aged 26 at the time, entered a private residence in Paisley's Ferguslie Park Avenue while wearing forensic suits, suggesting they had prepared meticulously for the assault.

Their entry was forced and deliberate, and they carried with them weapons, including machetes and knives, which they used to carry out their attack.

The assault was not only violent but also highly targeted, with the intent to cause maximum harm.

The most severe injury was inflicted upon Christopher Mellon, a 27-year-old man, who was subjected to a brutal attack that left his brain exposed through a deep cut in his skull.

The attack was so severe that Mr.

Mellon required emergency surgery lasting 17 hours.

The injuries sustained were catastrophic, leading to the amputation of three fingers on his left hand.

The court heard that the injuries caused a significant loss of function in his hands, profoundly affecting his quality of life.

Alongside Mr.

Mellon, his partner Donna Galloway, aged 34, and a young boy, who was only three years old at the time, also suffered injuries during the assault.

Ms.

Galloway was repeatedly struck on the head and body with the machetes, suffering serious wounds.

The young child was also assaulted, being struck multiple times on the head with the weapons, an act that drew widespread condemnation for its brutality and recklessness.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Brooks and McIntyre, along with an accomplice, had initially denied the charges, claiming they were not involved in the assault.

However, the evidence presented during the trial proved otherwise.

The court found them guilty of attempting to murder Mr.

Mellon and of assaulting Ms.

Galloway and the young boy with machetes.

The judge, Lord Brodie, described the attack as carefully planned and premeditated, emphasizing the severity and brutality of the assault.

Lord Brodie stated, “The evidence showed what appeared to be a carefully planned, premeditated attack by three attackers armed with machetes and knives.

It involved forced entry to a private home and the attack with weapons on those present, one of whom was a three-year-old child.” He further remarked that the injuries inflicted on Mr.

Mellon resulted in a “significant loss of function” to his hands, highlighting the devastating impact of the attack.

Both Brooks, from Thornliebank, and McIntyre, from Pollok in Glasgow, received the maximum sentences for their crimes, reflecting the gravity of their actions and the harm caused to the victims and their families.
