HARTLEPOOL MAN BRIAN BAIRD SENTENCED FOR ABUSE OF FOUR BOYS OVER 12 YEARS
In a case that has shocked the community of Hartlepool, Brian Baird, a man with no prior sexual convictions, was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison for heinous offences committed against four young boys over a span of more than a decade.The crimes, which took place at various times over a 12-year period, involved Baird preying on boys, most of whom were under the age of 13 at the time of the abuse.
During the hearing at Durham Crown Court, it was revealed that Baird, aged 56 and residing at Ellett Court, Myers Avenue, Hartlepool, had engaged in a series of disturbing acts against the victims.
The court was informed that Baird had been assessed in a pre-sentence probation report as posing a “high risk” of reoffending, particularly against children.
This assessment raised significant concerns about his potential for future harm, despite the fact that the offences occurred many years ago and only recently came to light.
Prosecutors charged Baird with nine counts of indecent assault involving boys under the age of 16.
During the proceedings last month, Baird admitted to six of these charges, but he denied three others.
The prosecution accepted his pleas for the six admitted offences, and the court decided not to pursue the charges he denied, effectively dropping those allegations.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Christopher Prince imposed strict restrictions on Baird’s future interactions with minors.
A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was issued, which restricts him from having contact with children under any circumstances until further notice.
Furthermore, a restraining order was put in place to prevent Baird from making any contact with his victims, ensuring their safety and peace of mind.
As part of his sentence, Baird will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
These measures reflect the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing concern for the protection of children in the Hartlepool area.
