KENT OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR RAPE AND ROBBERY
Drug addict Bret Newton, in Ashford, Kent, during March last year, gained entry into a woman's house and subjected her to a horrific sexual assault.
During the attack, he gagged her with her dressing gown to silence her, then proceeded to rape her twice and steal her cash and credit card.
Newton, a repeat offender with prior convictions for drugs, serious violence, and arson, also pulled her hair and strangled her with such force that she feared losing consciousness.
Despite telling her he would look after her after the attack, he lied and stole from her instead.
He was found guilty by a jury at Canterbury Crown Court on five charges, including the two rapes, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison with an additional five years on license.
The judge, James O’Mahony, remarked that Newton's conduct was controlling, violent, and bullying, emphasizing he posed a danger to the public and described his actions as evil.
The court noted that Newton committed these acts while on bail for other serious offenses.
