BOGDAN BERNAVIC FLEEING COVENTRY TO AVOID JUSTICE CAUGHT AND JAILED IN THE UK
In a case that has spanned several years and involved international cooperation, Bogdan Bernavic, a 26-year-old man from Coventry, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after being extradited back to the United Kingdom to face justice.Bernavic, who resided on Old Church Road in Coventry at the time of his crimes, was found guilty of grooming and abusing a 13-year-old girl, actions that have shocked the local community and highlighted the dangers posed by predators who exploit vulnerable minors.
His criminal activities came to light when he was initially arrested in 2014 after being seen picking up the young girl from her school in his Mercedes.
The investigation revealed that Bernavic had repeatedly lured the girl with alcohol and drugs, leading to multiple counts of rape.
These offences were formally charged in January 2017, but before he could stand trial, Bernavic chose to flee the country, evading justice and court proceedings.
Authorities, working closely with international law enforcement agencies, launched a manhunt that eventually led them to Romania in March of the same year.
Despite efforts to apprehend him there, Bernavic attempted to escape further by booking a flight to Spain.
However, on March 16 of this year, as he arrived at the airport intending to fly to Madrid, he was intercepted by officials and subsequently extradited back to the UK.
His trial concluded last Wednesday at Warwick Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 18 years behind bars.
In addition to his prison term, Bernavic was placed on the Sex Offender Register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and potential risk to the community.
The case underscores the importance of international cooperation in bringing offenders to justice and protecting vulnerable victims from predatory individuals like Bernavic.
