Perth Domestic Abuser
A disturbing case of domestic violence unfolded in Perth, where Bobbi Lawrence, a 22-year-old resident of Tulloch Hill, subjected his long-term partner to a brutal and extended assault within the confines of their shared home. The incident, which took place on June 28, has resulted in Lawrence being sentenced to a total of 290 days in jail, reflecting the severity of his actions and the impact on those involved.

According to reports presented at Perth Sheriff Court, the relationship between Lawrence and his partner had lasted for approximately six years. The violence erupted around 11 a.m. in their flat when Lawrence suddenly seized his partner by the neck and hair. He then applied pressure to her neck while pulling her down towards the floor, causing her to struggle to escape. Despite her efforts to flee from the living room, Lawrence pursued her into the hallway, where he continued his assault.

Depute fiscal Rebecca Kynaston detailed the escalation of violence, stating, “He grabbed hold of her throat again and pinned her to the wall.” The court heard that Lawrence’s aggression did not cease there. He took hold of her by the back of the neck and pressed her face against a window, an act that demonstrated the intensity of his anger. During the assault, Lawrence repeatedly slapped his partner on the head and issued threats to kill her, further illustrating the dangerous nature of his outburst.

Adding to the distress, Lawrence also directed threats of violence towards a young boy who was present in the house. He held his finger against the child's cheek in a menacing manner, heightening the sense of danger and fear within the household. The violence spilled over into a neighboring residence, where the partner had sought refuge. Law enforcement was called, and Lawrence was asked to leave the premises. He complied initially but was later apprehended by police.

When questioned about his behavior, Lawrence admitted to being “angry and lost his temper,” offering little in the way of remorse. During a search, officers found a small quantity of cannabis—0.1 grammes, valued at approximately £1—in his possession. His solicitor, Cliff Culley, explained that Lawrence’s partner was willing to support him and have him return home, but emphasized that he needed professional help, particularly with anger management and addressing childhood issues stemming from neglect and time spent in care. These early life experiences, according to Culley, contributed to his behavioral problems.

Lawrence pleaded guilty to the assault, which took place at their Tulloch Hill residence, and to possessing cannabis. Additionally, he admitted to resisting arrest on April 15, 2016, near his home at Tulloch Hill, when he attempted to flee from police officers. This led to an extra 50 days being added to his sentence, to be served consecutively. Sheriff Fiona Tait, who backdated the total sentence of 290 days to July 18, 2023, stated, “I’m not persuaded there’s an alternative to a custodial sentence in this instance,” underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed the case and the need for detention to prevent further harm.
