BINU PAUL SENTENCED IN KETTERING AND RUSHDEN FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS

A man from Kettering, identified as Binu Paul, has been handed down a prison sentence totaling three years for committing three separate sexual assaults in the towns of Rushden and Kettering. The conviction follows a series of disturbing incidents that took place over a span of more than two years, highlighting both the severity of his actions and the community's response.

On March 5, 2019, Paul was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at an address in Rushden. The details of this assault, which occurred in the early part of that year, were brought to light during the court proceedings, revealing a troubling pattern of behavior. The case was further compounded by two additional charges related to separate incidents in Kettering, which occurred on October 13, 2021. These involved two different women, each of whom fell victim to his inappropriate and unlawful conduct.

The community played a crucial role in the apprehension of Paul. It was through the intervention of vigilant members of the public that one of the victims in Kettering was able to be rescued from further harm. The first of these assaults took place on Silver Street, where CCTV footage captured Paul approaching a woman and making an inappropriate physical gesture by striking her on the bottom. When the woman challenged his actions, he walked away, but the incident left a lasting impression of his misconduct.

Subsequently, Paul entered Horse Market, where he committed another sexual assault against a different woman. This incident was interrupted by members of the public, who managed to restrain him until law enforcement officials arrived to take him into custody. The quick response of bystanders was instrumental in preventing further harm and ensuring that he was detained for questioning.

Paul, who resides at Bellway Close in Kettering, first appeared before Northampton Magistrates’ Court on October 15, 2021. During this initial hearing, he faced multiple charges, including sexual assault, harassment, and assault related to the incidents in Rushden. Additionally, he was charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath while driving, which led to further legal consequences. As part of the proceedings, he was disqualified from driving for 36 months, fined £120, ordered to pay £85 in costs, and a £35 victim surcharge.

Following the magistrates’ court hearing, the sexual assault cases were forwarded to Northampton Crown Court. On July 24, 2024, Paul was sentenced to a total of 36 months in prison for the three sexual assault offences. The court also imposed a five-year restraining order, which prohibits him from making any contact with the victims involved in the Rushden case through any means. Furthermore, he was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from potential future harm.
