DUNSTABLE MAN SENTENCED FOR ASSAULT AND ABUSE OF EX-PARTNER IN STEVENAGE
Billy Smith, aged 24, had a history of violence towards his ex-partner over a period of around six months in 2022.The woman reported that on one occasion outside Stevenage High Street's Mulberry Tree pub, Smith punched her in the face after an argument.
The assault left her with a cut to her mouth.
On another incident outside the Tranquil Turtle in Symonds Green Lane, he grabbed her by the hair and used a belt to beat her to the ground.
Following this, Smith forced her to walk home barefoot while threatening her with further violence.
The victim admitted she thought he was going to kill her.
After ending the relationship, Smith continued to bombard her with abusive messages and threats.
The Hertfordshire police arrested him on July 27, during which he punched a female officer, causing her nose to bleed.
He pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behavior, assaulting an emergency worker, and breaching a restraining order.
At St Albans Crown Court on October 21, Smith was sentenced to two years and four months in prison.
Additionally, he received an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with the victim.
Investigators highlighted the harm caused and praised the victim's bravery in supporting the case, with officers stating that no one should live in fear of physical harm from a partner.
